Home Stretch: Last Weeks of the Campaign Dear Maryland Progressive, We're working on Get Out the Vote efforts for PDA-endorsed candidate, Congresswoman Donna Edwards, and turn Virginia blue efforts with our allies. We're continuing work on our core issues, Healthcare NOT Warfare, Global Warming, Fair Trade, Election Integrity, and Economic and Social Justice. Contact me to get involved with ongoing PDA efforts. What happens if you fall sick and are one of 47 million people in America without health insurance? "Critical Condition" by Roger Weisberg ("Waging a Living," P.O.V. 2006) puts a human face on the nation's growing health care crisis by capturing the harrowing struggles of four critically ill Americans who discover that being uninsured can cost them their jobs, health, home, savings, even their lives. Filmed in vérité style, "Critical Condition" offers a moving and invaluable expose at a time when the nation is debating how to extend health insurance to all Americans.

* Immediately following the 90-minute broadcast of Critical Condition, PBS’s McNeil/Lehrer Productions will present a half-hour special, “Rx for Change,” exploring the presidential candidates’ proposals for health care reform. Susan Dentzer, health correspondent for The NewsHour With Jim Lehrer, will moderate the discussion, which will include spokespersons for the candidates as well as distinguished health policy experts.

"In the Family" documents Rudnick's efforts to reach out to other women while facing her deepest fears. 

*The filmmaker’s journey includes her confrontation with the biotech company that owns the patent on the BRCA genes and testified in Washington, D.C., for the Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act (which provides legal protection against genetic discrimination from insurance companies and employers).She also interviews Martha, an activist who works tirelessly to keep African American women in the fight against breast cancer despite trying to battle the disease without health insurance.

Help Make the Purple Line a Reality!

Dear Friends,

For over 20 years, environmental, civic, business, and activist groups have been fighting to add a Purple Line to the region's metrorail system. But for this to become a reality, we must act now. This light rail project would run from Bethesda to New Carrollton, with stops in Chevy Chase, College Park, Silver Spring, .Takoma/Langley, and more. But more importantly, in the midst of growing concern about our climate, unceasing traffic congestion, long commutes, and a looming recession impacted by high gas prices -- the Purple Line would encourage environmentally responsible development, take 20,000 cars off the road, shorten commutes and improve our economy.

There are three actions you can take to make this Light Rail Transit Line a reality.

1. Sign our On-Line petition TODAY: Help us reach our goal of 5,000 signatures - a small percentage of the 1.5 million daily transit riders in our region. Go to: purplelinenow.com for a direct link to the petition.  There is also a link to request one of our new "Purple Line Greener Future" lawn signs at this page.

2. Volunteer to circulate a letter in support of the Purple Line among your neighbors, condo association members or other friends and colleagues.  Contact purplecampaign@yahoo.com to help.
