Why: To Commemorate the 90th anniversary of women's suffrage and demand full equality for women.
Where: The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
When: 6:30 pm-9:30 pm Thursday, August 26th, 2010.
United For Equality will lead a rally giving a "Shout Out" to the Obama Administration and to the First Family including Michele, Malia and Sasha Obama. Our message: "America Needs a Woman's Touch." It is critical during this time of economic rebuilding that we dust off the Constitution and eliminate the 2nd class citizenship of women and girls across America. President Obama, as an African American male and constitutional law professor, understands the price of exclusion from our Social Contact. There is no better legacy for him to leave America's daughters than establishing equality and justice for every American regardless of their gender. The event will celebrate an important milestone in American history while highlighting the important work left undone to secure full equality under law for women and girls across the U.S.
Participating Organizations: United for Equality LLC, the Montgomery Country MD Chapter of NOW, and Responsible for Equality And Liberty will hold a protest and candlelight vigil at the White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM on Women's Equality Day, August 26, 2010.

The groups plan candlelight speeches and songs in support of women's equality beginning at 8:15 PM, in support of full Constitutional equality for American women, calling for the passage of the Equality Rights Amendment (E.R.A.).
Join us from 6:30pm to 9:30pm to honor the courage and contributions of our foremothers (and ourselves) on this 90th anniversary of women's suffrage. We invite your organization to join us to symbolize the infinite strength of the women's movement in 2010. Carry signs bearing your organization's mission, and let the common bond for women's equality unite us for an evening.
Event organizer Carolyn Cook of United for Equality says, "The Equal Rights Amendment will open the doors completely to women and girls full participation as co-stewards of America's future whether in the home or in the workplace. It is not a partisan divide. It is a fundamental human right to live with dignity and respect under the law."
Jeffrey Imm, Responsible for Equality and Liberty http://www.realcourage.org/ said, “Men should ask themselves, would just having voting rights be enough for them? If not, why should they think only voting rights are enough for our sisters, daughters, and mothers in America? We need to be consistently responsible for equality and liberty, not just for some Americans, but for all Americans."
Activist and blogger Mike Hersh, Men for the ERA, http://MenForTheERA.wordpress.com/ said, "I learned about the Constitution in high school, in college and in law school, and nothing I've read or heard justifies continuing second class citizenship for women and girls. In the spirit of the Declaration of Independence, we should embrace this self-evident truth: All people are created equal. We should step up and fix this glaring Constitutional omission. The time is long past for us to recognize full equality for all."
Camille Moran, Lobbying Director for the Louisiana Coalition of the Equal Rights Amendment, said, “Equality is long overdue for the women of America. We call upon the 35 previously ratified states to stand with the last three states needed to make the ERA the 28th Amendment to the U. S. Constitution."
Promotional materials about the event explain, "Women and girls remain 2nd class citizens (with limited rights) in the US today because sex discrimination has not yet been outlawed under the US Constitution. When Government classifies individuals according to stereotypes about their roles and capabilities, it limits one’s ability to develop to one’s full potential."
Rally and walk participants will call upon "President and Michele Obama, Democrats, Republicans and Independents to eliminate the economic, political and social disparities that legalized sex discrimination has caused in our society," and "honor the collective power of Sisterhood on the 90th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage" by demanding "full legal, political and social rights for every woman and girl" through ratification of the ERA by 2015.
