SINGLE PAYER IS NOT ONLY ON THE TABLE, IT IS ON THE FLOOR!!

As you may know, in the beginning of 2009, we were told repeatedly that single payer was not on the table. A series of events over the spring and summer changed that.

May 5th and 12th – doctors, nurses and health advocates were arrested in the senate finance committee for asking that single payer have a seat at the table.

June 10th - the house education and labor health subcommittee holds the first hearing on single payer.

June 11th – Dr. Margaret Flowers testifies on single payer in the senate health, education, labor and pensions committee.

June 24th – single payer advocates testify at the house committees on ways & means and energy & Commerce.

July 30th – celebration of medicare’s 44th anniversary in Washington, D.C. and around the country with events all day long.

July 31st – Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) introduces an amendment to substitute HR 676: National Health Care Act for HR 3200. Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Waxman offer a full debate of the weiner amendment and a vote on the floor of the full house this fall.

This is the first time in the history of our nation that single payer will be debated and voted upon on the floor of the house.

Let’s keep the momentum rolling! Please join us on 9/26/09!
